It actaully coverts them into an MJPEG format, and that in turn is what you copy onto your SD card and put in your Wii. I think the quality is changeable if you go through the wizard. I do that all the time now. It is so easy. ALSO, you can download videos from youtube with it now and convert them...that is how I got that PS3 song, "How you killed your brand." On my Wii.
