The US release date for "Super Smash Brothers Brawl" for the Wii is set for March 9, 2008--less than a month away.
The Japanese version won't work unless you install a "modchip" in your Wii, which requires opening your console and soldering it in--which will automatically void your warranty and could result in "bricking" your console. What is meant by "bricking" is that your console will cease to function, rendering it as useless as a brick. This could happen as a result of incompatability with other Wii games, as well as improper soldering--you really need to know what you're doing before deciding on this course of action.

The legality of modchips is debatable, however they aren't actually ILLEGAL in the United States and many other countries. They are however illegal in the U.K.
I don't think it would be worth "chipping" your Wii just to get the Japanese version a month early.
