E3: The 8 Biggest Game Announcements Which of this year's E3 revelations are really making waves? Find out with our run-down of the biggest announcements so far.
E3 always plays host to the year's biggest crop of brand-new game announcements, and despite its new slimline format this year's show is no different. Here's our pick of the first two days' bombshells -- complete with top-quality video footage for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.
Resident Evil 5
Take a stroll through a creepy African village in Resident Evil 5. All we know so far is what's in the trailer, but we're totally feeling the 28-Days-Later-meets-Blackhawk-Down vibe. Breaking away from Resident Evil tradition worked wonders for Resi 4, so it's great to see the series taking yet another unexpected turn. Give us more!
Metal Gear Solid 4
Look, just do yourself a favor and watch this trailer. Seriously. If you don't watch any of the others, check this one out. Not for nothing is the Metal Gear series considered one of the most genuinely cinematic videogame franchises around, so just wait until you see what its creator Hideo Kojima is doing with the PlayStation 3.
Project Gotham Racing 4
Ever wonder how a motorbike would fare in one of Project Gotham's high-adrenaline cityscape races? Wonder no longer. Later this year, the latest in Bizarre Creations' smash hit racer series will hit the 360, and it's bringing a whole host of motorcycles from all the top manufacturers to join in the party.
Viva Pinata: Party Animals
A party's a perfect place for a pinata, but these particular cardboard, candy-filled animals are the stars of the Saturday morning cartoon show of the same name (and last year's outstanding Rare-developed building game, too). Party Animals sees them taking on the minigame genre instead.
Halo Wars
Spinning off the astonishingly successful Halo series into a strategy game is a bold move, but on the strength of this footage it's one that might just pay off. Who could honestly say they wouldn't want to command a whole pack of Halo vehicles?
Soul Calibur Legends
Speaking of spin-offs, this fighting-game-turned-hack-em-up looks like being a real feather in the Wii's cap. The controls look awesome, the action-packed graphics really shine, and...OK, we admit it, we're suckers for anything with the Soul Calibur name on it.
Killzone 2
Yes, it's real, and the trailer actually contains gameplay footage this time. Of course, Sony said that in 2006 about Killzone's last, obviously pre-rendered trailer, but this time they're not kidding. We're convinced, and after you watch the trailer, you will be too.
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams
Sequel to the Sega Saturn classic NiGHTS into Dreams, this Wii stunner needs no introduction. What's that? You never played the original? Imagine flying through a dreamlike, Peter Pan world, controlled by just a wave of your hand...or just check out the trailer, which would probably be a lot easier. Your choice.
