MySims Impressions - Wii

MySims Impressions - Wii

As most of you now know ths editor was invited to spend last Friday at the official EA compound where I got a chance to check out both version of the new MySims title on the Wii and the DS. Loot Ninja was invited as well as a few other sites, Destructoid, GamingSteve, GearDiary, WiiWiiTv, TechnaBob and BlogCritics and we all had a great time and a lot of opportunities to get hands on with both tiles.

I will start off by discussing ths Wii version. Let me start off by saying that the Wii version takes cuteness to a whole new level. The design of the new MySims is a 180 degree difference from the traditional Sims titles we are all used to, they are heavily inspired by Japanese anime have plenty of Nintendo flair. The most interesting thing is that the art direction was done by the saem gentleman that did the art for God of War, two totally different ends of the spectrum, but both looking very vibrant.

This version of the Sims since made exclusively for the Nintendo systems definitely has heavy influences in both the character design and level design of the game, think Marioesque. For the game the look of the environment and levels work very well, but if you were hoping to dive into classic Sims action be prepared for a different experience.

MySims focuses much more on your main avatar that you create and what he/she influences in the world, you only control this one character throughout the game. As you create a better town for your character you will get more opportunities to build houses for new inhabitants of your cute and tiny city. The controls of the game are very intuitive and the Wiimote for the most part works out very well to take the place of a mouse and keyboard. Things are painted, moved, destroyed and created all using the Wiimote with a few simple points and clicks, while the Nunchuck controls all of your movements.

Some of the game mechanics have definitely been tweaked for this rated E for everyone version, you can no longer kill your Sims or torture them by building a house with no doors or bathroom and there are really no negative things that can happen to them aside from maybe be mean to another character and they become your enemy. The game is very much geared to keep it clean and fun for all, so sorry to disappoint anyone that was hoping for a “hot coffee mod”.

MySims can be as linear as you want it to be and really has no true ending as you can always continue to build and create in your virtual world. The game allows you to customize your character at any time even with cross gender clothes, which is a bit odd. You can build elaborate homes and interiors, and one new thing is that now the interior and exterior of the houses are not linked; so you can change the exterior of your home without affecting anyhitng you set up on the inside. One other very interesting feature is the create a furniture/object, this allows you to really use your imagination and create different things either from blueprints you have acquired or from your mind. First sculpture I worked on was the official Loot Ninja logo in the game, I will post pictures later.

I definitely recommend this game for any Wii owner out there that would like a casual game to play and keep you interested for a while. I will have a full review up once I sit down with it some more.

Here are some screenshots of the level designs and characters:

No game can ever be complete without a dance off and MySims has plenty.

Looks like a sword fight broke out, o no’s!

Ms. Cleo says she sees this game in your future.
