help on wii backups

hi,i have a pal wii with a mod chip, is there anyway of finding out what region the discs are before putting them in?i dont want us/jap just incase of a firmware brick, also if i play only pal uk games do i have to update my firmware or is it ok just to leave it,any advice would be great.

it depends on what modchip you have, certain games DO have firmware updates on them, but if you keep your wii's modchip up to date it should work, and updating doesn't matter TOO muc, because usually a couple days after a Firmware update modchips have updates released.

if you have the original game, the regeon sould be on the disc and on the game's box, on the back cover. I think some modchips can tell you what regeon a gmae is, but I don't know, if you're downloading games illegally they usually would ave the regeon in a readme or the file name.
