I wrote to Nintendo asking about the Wii and it being able to play DVD's. It appears that the Launch Wii WILL NOT be able to play DVDs after all. This kinda....irks me.

Dear Nintendo of America,
My name is Joshua James Long from Warren, MI and I am a proud fan of Nintendo, since I own all but 3 systems you have come out with. I was wondering if you could please just shed a little more light on the rumors of a DVD playing Wii. Is there anyway the people, like me that got it on launch day are going to be able to get this feature? I hope so or the Wii just might be the last Nintendo console I buy. This is not a threat, but merely a warning. A lot of Nintendo's fan boys will be upset if you hurt the ones who moved the early consoles out the doors and put you in second and soon to be first of the console wars. Are those of us who have the first generation of Wii be able to get the DVD playing feature at all?

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,

In answer to your question, I can confirm that Nintendo and Sonic Solutions have made an agreement to allow Nintendo the use of Sonic Solutions' DVD technology in a future version of the Wii console. However, launch details, like where (regions or countries) it will sell, release date, or price (although it will be more expensive than the original version) are currently unavailable and won't be revealed until sometime in the latter half of 2007. It will not be available as an add-on attachment.

For those who already own a DVD player at home, the launch version of Wii will be the best choice. This version of the console is more affordable and you'll be able to enjoy Wii games immediately.

I for one wouldn't want it. A) The cost when almost everyone has a DVD player on the comp or a stand alone for the T.V. It kills the life of systems putting more strain on them.

i asked them if they had a date for when guitar hero 3 songs will be available to download since they have to redo it for the wii shop and I also included the launch day of GHIII clearly in the email and the guy told me that guitar hero 3 comes out sometime in october or november he thinks but he doesn't remember the day and that he has no idea about it really.
