Guide to disassemble the Nintendo Wii (Video and Pictures)

Guide to disassemble the Nintendo Wii (Video and Pictures)

Guide to disassemble Nintendo Wii: Part 1

Guide to disassemble Nintendo Wii: Part 2

1) Heartbreaking, isn't it? The external shell and front piece come off

2) Rear view of the cooling fan and A/V, power and USB ports

3) The broken optical drive was what caused this whole mess in the first place. It's connected to the main board with a single ribbon

4) Closer look at the Wii drive

5) The main board is seperated from the optical drive by a metal plate

6) One of two Wi-Fi antennas at the back of the console, mounted vertically

7) The other Wi-Fi antenna is on the other side

8) A closer look at the Wi-Fi module with antenna leads connected

9) The metal plate comes off, revealing the main logic board

10) The fins of the metal heatsink. It may not be the most powerful chipset, but it still needs to stay cool

11) The Wi-Fi module with thermal grease. The SD card slot is also visible.

12) Wi-Fi antennas come off

13) The heatsink is removed, revealing the main IBM "Broadway" processor and the ATI "Hollywood" graphics chip

14) A closer look at the main chipset (after removing the thermal grease). The codenames are stamped on the surface

15) All done. An overview of the damage

Guide to Disassemble Nintendo Wii (Pictures Guide)

Via Wii-Xposed

First let´s see what we need to open this baby.

- our Wii
- a tri-wing screwdriver
- a normal philipps screwdriver
- a scalpel (optional for removing the pads)

Now move your Wii with the battery side towards you

Remove the pads in the red circles and the screws under them

You will end up like this:

You can now remove the tri-wing screw which was behind the battery slot

Now turn you Wii with the bottom towards you:

Again, remove the pads and the screws under them. These screws are all tri-wing screws.

Now turn the Wii with the GameCube ports towards you:

Remove the two little plastic doors. Don´t be too harsh or you might brake them !

Now remove the three screws shown in red circles.

The left screw is a little longer than the others.

You can remove the black plastic part now:

Turn the Wii with the slot-in drive showing to you:

Carefully remove the little plug shown in the red circle

Finally you can take of the top cover of the Wii:

Just lift it up carefully.

After that you can also just lift up the metall cover of the drive:

Now remove the four screws shown in the red circles:

After that you are able to take the drive off:

Carefully remove the ribbon cable and the voltage plug

Now you are ready to install the modchip of your choice:
