My Wii makes a buzzing sound from the disc drive, is this a serious problem?

A few weeks ago I noticed that when my Wii has a disc in the drive, it makes a buzzing sound as if there was something dragging or rubbing against a moving part.

It sounds like the consoles in the following videos - these are not my videos, but it is exactly the same sound.

YouTube - Wii Noise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XKKLkqdZ34 (this video shows someone supposedly solving the problem)

Is this a serious problem and is it likely to get worse? I don't mind the sound, but is this some kind of mechanical failure in its early stages?
There are some videos in YouTube that show people loosening a screw on the inside of the drive and fixing this problem, but I am reluctant to disassemble my Wii.

I am no longer covered by the 1 year warranty and I don't want to have to buy a new one. Should I just not worry about this, or is this eventually going to ruin my hardware?

I get that noise every now and then. At first, I freaked out because I had no idea what to do, but its not serious.

I know exactly what you're talking about, and don't worry about it. My Wii stopped making that noise 2 months ago by itself. I looked into it, and its no big deal. I assume its just a wire or something that just makes that noise when it vibrates when the disc drive is running.

Its not a failure of any kind.

Don't worry about it. Its just a creepy noise.

Wow, the Wii should not being doing that. If I were you, I would check the warranty to see if it still good. If not, check around for places that repair electronics. I suggest getting it checked ASAP.

Jiya, didn't you read what I said? He shouldn't worry about it.

But, TheJuggler17, if you are really concerned, call Nintendo's customer service line and talk to a represenative. That's what I would do.

Yeah, he should worry about it. My Wii never made this noise before and his hasn't gone away (as of yet) like yours did. But hey, it isn't my $250 that might be going down the drain.

Strange sound

Nah don't think you need to worry.

All optical disc drives sounds strange from time to time, it is usually happening when they need to change the laser position during loading.
This does not happen when we listen to music because it goes from start to end.
