Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector

Some people are saying their Wii cannot connect to wifi using a Linksys wireless router, in that case, you can buy the following:

If you want to use the online features of your Nintendo DS or Wii console and you don't have a wireless router, you can use the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector.

The Wi-Fi USB Connector is a dedicated wireless access point that plugs into a USB port on your PC. It uses your PC to access your existing high-speed internet connection. Multiple systems may be registered to the USB Connector and up to five (5) systems can be connected wirelessly at the same time. The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector will ONLY work with the Nintendo DS and/or Wii console system.

My DS doesn't pick up my home network so I had to go out and buy the addaptor at Walmart for $25.52. I love playing my DS games online.

I don't have a DS, and I heard it's a lot of fun! How do you connect the adaptor? Does the DS have a USB port too?

I hooked the USB device into my computer, and when you go to Wireless settings on the DS, there is an option to search for the USB device and use that to connect to the internet so you can play the games online or surf the internet with the DS Web Browser that just came out.

ohhh okay that explains it. So you don't really need a wireless router, an adaptor sounds even easier.

This is how the USB connector works, (answering lovingwii)
the connecter can be hooked into your PC, or used with the included extension cabl for better connectivity if your pc is in a cabinet ect. it takes up little internet usage (56k works fine) Brodband internet (cable, DSL, t1) is reccomneded. when you plug in the USB connecter the nintendo wifi registration software will install automatically. open the software window (the software installs a start menu shortcut) and allow acsess to your Wii or DS, the console/handheld must be activly searching for a Nintendo Wifi USB connecter at the time, or the name will not show. the DS's name on the list would be the name you put in at system startup for the first time, or the modified one you put in later. the wii's name (for me and my freind) will be in japanese charecters, this will change when you allow acsess to the wii, it will become english (or whatever your native language is for your PC and wii)

the USb connecter emiths a wireless internet signal that is secure (to my knowledge) and only shows up on nintendo systems (ds/wii) it's signal rage is FAr shorter than most wireless internet cards or routers, I measure it to be (unhindered by walls ect) about the same distance for a ds-ds connection (IE local wireless play on any DS multiplayer game) this is around 30-45 feet for me, most routers can emit unhindered for over 50 feet at least. and if a foreign Ds or wii tries to connect to your USB connecter (foreign as in it's not your wii/ds) the name shows up on the roster of who is trying to connect, it automatically doesn't connect the system to the internet unless the user opens the registration tool and grants acsess.

I have found that my Firewall blocks my wifi connecter from functioning, but that's more of a recent problem and only troubles me when my router is broken or turned off. I have McAfee virus scan and firewall, so if you want to use a USB connecter with Mcaffee you'll have to manually add the ports to the list or turn off the firewall for however long you need to.

I hope this helps
Flamin
