I really don't believe the Wii would overheat if you leave it on over a long period of time. I do, however, recommend turning it off at least once in a 48 hour period to cool it down. I have heard from recent posts that the Nintendo Wii could freeze if left on for a long period of time, but this is a minor and temporary defect that can be fixed by restarting your Wii system. Overall, nothing major would happen if you leave your Wii on for a while, if any. Just keep your electricity bill in mind, however. =) Hope this helped.

You can leave it on Stand - By (Yellow Light) as long as you want. I have been leaving it on since April 07 and it has had no problems.
