What are the benefits of a modded Wii?

Or rather, why do people mod systems in general?

Basically, the main reason and obvious reason is that you can download Wii Games off the internet (Bittorrent), stick it onto a CD, and play it on the Wii. So basically, you could have 1000's of Games for free. The second benefit is that you could go on a trip....lets just say....America.
You see a really cheap game but its in NTSC (American Wii Format) With a mod chip, It automatically converts a game thats NTSC to PAL (Australian Wii Format)
Also, some Chips offer you to watch DVDs on your Wii.
Basically, there are some upsides and some downsides.

dont mod it its stupid and and you wont be able to update your wii say there is a update to fix something nintendo will not work on a moded wii and you will lose your 1 year warranty its not very smart inless you no what your doing and can fix a broken wii say something should happen to it so just think about that.

be careful tho, sometimes if your wii is modded and you attempt to update your wii, it will render it unusable.
