E3 Heavenly Sword & Lair Demo, LittleBigPlanet Beta

Sony bringing home E3 to its users too?

Microsoft has already announced plans to "bring it home" to Xbox 360 users next week with downloadable videos, demos and more featuring the best from the Electronic Entertainment Expo. However, it may not be the only company getting it done, as Sony may be making some kind of similar push to give PS3 owners a taste of what lies ahead for its powerhouse gaming console. That leaves a question...what can Nintendo do to keep up?
Sony already has a feverish push going into E3, after launching the surprisingly awesome shooting game Super Stardust HD and a series of movie and game trailers. But this could be just the beginning of what could be a big week for the company, if rumors end up being true.

First off, Factor 5, the developers of the forthcoming dragon shooter Lair, has already confirmed that a demo will be coming out for the game "in July", one month before the game's official August 14th release. Now, because the game is a huge part of Sony's line-up, it might be a pretty smart idea to unleash the demo during E3 week, so gamers excited for it can check it out in the comfort of their own home while journalists play it somewhere at the Sony suite or on the show floor.

Another demo rumored to be making the rounds "very soon" is Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword, featuring a sweet-looking hottie battling all kinds of impossible odds to bring down the man that murdered her father. Theory should be finishing up work on this soon and already promised a demo would be coming as well. So, again, it would be a big part of some kind of online E3 push.

And let's not forget the online betas, either. The Home beta is in full swing and Warhawk appears to still be going strong. Seeing the expansion of these into fuller betas would probably be a smart idea, involving more users. Word has it that Little Big Planet, from the makers of the Rag Doll Kung Fu game, would be starting up a beta as well. Again, E3 could hold the key to all this and Sony could really give its users something spectacular if it wanted.

So, Microsoft has its bases covered and it looks like Sony might be smart enough to do the same thing. Where does that leave Nintendo? Probably in a more limited spot, since the Nintendo Wii isn't as fully online as the other machines. Still, this would be a good week to offer superb games to provide a little relief from the E3 hoopla, such as Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64 and Super Mario Bros. 3 for the NES. Also, consider this -- Nintendo could offer a little dose of what it has in mind for its Wii Ware program. I dunno, a drawing program ala Mario Paint, a simple racing game, something. We'll have to see what they're up to. Maybe launching some online game trailers or the rumored Nintendo Power channel would be ideal...

Anyway, E3 is next week and, one way or another, users will get their fill. Keep a close eye on those game consoles.
